why biac is a amazing lgbt film

but im a cheerleader is one of the best and most brilliantly made lgbt-movies in history, wrapping up the year 1999 (which was likely the most homophobic years ever but idk i was born in the 2000s), with a bang-- a lesbian bang. which there is lesbian-banging in this movie but its not like, the main factor of the film like in most gay films. like i dont have a problem with it PERSONALLY, but a cute gay love story is nice to have once in a while. but what IS "but im a cheerleader"?? (if you dont know what it is)

but im a cheerleader is a satire romantic teen comedy, directed by jamie babbit as her director debut. the movie is about a christian girl named meghan bloomfield (acted by the amazing and fuckin smoking natasha lyonne), who is the average normal good girl, BUT a important thing-- shes gay. and a cheerleader but the main thing is that shes gay and everyone else around her knows... besides her. which tbh is a very common thing for most people in the lgbt community. her family brings in literally fucking rupaul, or ig ""mike"" from true directions, alongside mary (acted by cathy moriarty), whom is the mastermind of the "make america less gay again" club that they want meghan to be in. not to derail from the recap, but as a possible bisexual/lesbian raised in a jehovah witness household, id actually go nuts if i had to be part of something like this, and im honestly very glad i didnt-- because i still havent told my folks, beside my sister, and a few friends.

later into the movie, meghan has now arrived in gay hell when she couldve been at the boring ass football game at her school, but they had donuts so honestly i understand her upsetness-- and also the fact that shes at a conversion camp. she meets a few other people who are also in the proccess of "not being gay" and ofc, meghan is still very much in denial. eventually, she does give into it and realises it in the most funniest goddamn ways possible, but still she eventually realises it and shes now on her way to un-homosexualizing herself because gay is not okay! right? so for true directions, theres like 5 steps for the process to show that you are truly worthy enough to call yourself straight.

these steps are like the key to being straight in this program and they no joke, treat it like youre graduating lmao

as mean as this sounds, the entire scene where meghan has to basically accept that she is a lesbian is so funny. the music for some reason sounds hella hypnotizing for absolutely no fucking reason whatsover. i personally think this part of the movie is definitely a little relatable though, specifically at the part where she says "I thought everybody had those thoughts."
